LBC Robbing leads to Lasalle hostage taking

Aug 13,2010

By Andrew Pamorada

According to LBC personnel, about 3:30pm in the afternoon, 3 guys declared hold-up on the LBC branch along Taft Ave.,(north bound lane) near Quirino Ave. I asked the LBC personnel, what or how much was taken, but they told me they are still verifying on their inventory what was really was lost (but I think they don’t just really want it to say to me). But according to GMA News reports, they got 10,000 pesos.

After the robbing incident, the 3 hold-uppers ran on Taft going to Lasalle. Two of the hold-uppers ran on south-bound side of Taft Ave.(Lasalle side) and the other one on the other side of Taft (across Lasalle). The LBC personnel shouted “Hold-up!”, so the people around started running to chase them. Eventually the first hold-upper was caught along Taft near Dagonoy St.(in front of Velasco Gate, street where Sinangag Express is) and was mob by the people (a.k.a. kinuyog ng taong bayan, hahahaha).

Security personnel were alert through their radios by then when the first person was running and was caught by the people. However, they don’t know that there are still two hold-uppers that was with them.

Esmeraldo Aliño, one of the security guards of Lasalle, was in Agno St. by that time, and when he heard on the radio that the hold-uppers was caught, he rushed towards where the first hold-upper was caught using his security motorcycle. However, while he was in Castro St., he saw one man bare-footed that was running from Taft going to Agno.

Aliño asked the guy, “O Kuya, bakit ka tumatakbo?”

The guy said, “Ah, kuya me naholdup dun sa Taft!”

Aliño was wondering why he was reddish(namumula) and was barefooted, so he thought that maybe he is also a hold-upper so they caught him and eventually know that he was also one. They also got a tear-gas from him afterwards, which was learn that it is supposed to be used in LBC robbing, however it failed and didn’t work.

I was in Gokongwei Building that time in Lasalle, supposedly going up to call one of my groupmates for our thesis meeting, when I saw that there was something wrong in Taft so checked it out. (And that time, I was still innocent that the 2 of the 3 hold-uppers were already caught .) As we were looking outside the Gokongwei Gate what was happening, there is one guy wearing blue running towards EGI building(beside Gokongwei). After a while, in front of EGI building, he drew a gun from his waist, AND SAW IT PERSONALLY caught a guy wearing yellow and pointed the gun to the guy wearing yellow. (Eventually, I learned that guy wearing yellow was one of the electrician of Lasalle.)

We were frightened by that time, so we went inside Gokongwei. (Even the guard assigned Gokongwei that time was also shocked that there was still another hold-upper) So when I got inside, *photojournalist instinct*, got my camera and press id, which was on Gokongwei lobby and went out again even though the situation is very delicate.

The third hold-upper was the only person with a gun among the 3 hold-uppers. He caught the Lasalle electrician and walked towards Velasco Gate.

The hold-upper saw a Lasalle student crossing Taft that time going to Velasco, so he freed the electrician from Lasalle and caught the girl student and brought her towards Velasco Gate. (Some people said maybe the the big built electrician might fight off, so the hold-upper maybe choose the Lasallian student instead)

The Lasallian student was said to be a first year student. She was crying while the hold-upper is pointing the gun to her waist.

Negotiations were undertaken and local police and security of Lasalle talked to him. Afterwards, there is this guy wearing a white polo, went out from Velasco Gate, and went in front of the hold-upper and talked to him. (According to W.H. Taft residences employees, the white polo guy was a organic professor of Lasalle.) The hold-upper surrendered and the police got his gun and the people looking around want to knocked him down but then was blocked by the police. Because of the people who want to knock him, the police decided to open the Velasco Gate and was brought inside Lasalle, just inside the gate.

The suspects were brought to Station 9 of the Manila Police District and the girl was brought to the hospital. According to GMA News, the 3 suspects were tricycle drivers and that was their first time to robbed, but the police officers don’t believe that it is true.

*all of this is from my first hand experience and based on first-hand experience of DLSU guards, LBC personnel, tricycle drivers along taft and bystanders and info from GMA News.

It’s been three days and still, I’m not yet feeling well.

My stomach was aching since Saturday and I also had a fever that same day. Great.

I went to school awhileago thinking that I would be able to feel any better since I would be around some people and they could somehow alleviate this feeling. Earlier today, some of my friends were messing up with me

VJ and Peach were the first ones because someone approached us to answer a survey and VJ mispronounced D.L.S.U. to DELASHU. Funny as hell.

Then Jijo, Mac and Miguel came and asked for a random girl’s name. Good thing I personally know her. I’m trying to come up with ways to introduce her to them.

Oh, Miguel and I saw Kirsten. LOL! Achievement.

I was supposed to go home by 1PM but it was so hot. I couldn’t move. My stomach started to ache that time and I tried to sleep at ENGWALK but there were some visitors seated at the other table so I didn’t. I stayed there for a while hoping to have a great day since my day was wasted doing nothing. Ugh.

Then I got pissed.

Then I went home.

Well, I wasn’t expecting that much today.

Then a long lost friend suddenly sent me a message. Somehow made me feel better. It really gave me the uplift I needed.

This day turned out so well. I really enjoyed this one.

I woke up around 8AM and had a quick breakfast. Mom asked me to start fixing my stuff since we’re moving on the 28th, I guess. I tried fixing it and it already took me five hours just to clean one box full of papers, my drawers full of random stuff and other things. The reason why it took me so much time doing this because I’m contemplating whether to keep it or throw it away. Like for example, a newspaper from Plaridel. If that was just an ordinary newspaper, maybe I would’ve thrown it away but Plaridel and The La Sallian made my year as a CAP worthwhile so I kept some with articles about my projects and other interviews. Priceless. I even saw some project proposals and other plans I had which I was able to execute last year. Wala lang, saya.

Well after my general cleaning, actually I’m not yet done since I have another box and a cabinet to scan tomorrow, I had my lunch and went straight to the bathroom. Oh, I was able to get a ticket for the ADMU vs. DLSU game on Sunday but I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it since I feel that the event on Friday will definitely kill me. EXCITED!

Okay, I was able to reach school around 2:30PM. You know what? It sometimes freak me out when someone kept on looking at you for quite sometime. Have you ever had that feeling? Well anyway. When I got to school, I immediately saw Rache, Tin and Galen. We had some chat about our PERSEF3 project and tried to come up with ways on how to do the EGG Experiment. While we were talking, Joseph and Jon stopped and Joseph went like this.

Joseph: Uy Alex Congrats! Nominated pala kayo for Gold.

Alex: *Shocked* Oh?! San nakalagay.

Joseph: Dun sa faculty, kalaban niyo sila Borgie at sila ano.

Alex: Shet seryoso *With a wide smile on my face*

Joseph: Joke lang!

First Strike.

That already made my day. I was really enthusiastic for the rest of the day because of that. I was able to finish our thesis Tarpaulin too because of that. We were also able to get a floor plan for our COMMSYS. Yey for that! We waited for quite some time before our meeting in PERSEF3. Galen and Rachel wanted to try out the experiment so we tried it out at ENGWALK and guess what? We failed. We even made some few tricks like adding alcohol and stuff. But it failed as well. So we decided to go up and have our meeting. Our leader, Dan, headed the meeting and I think it really went well since all of them prepared for it. We had some photoshoots and watched a video from one of the episodes of Comedy Bar that really made me laugh so hard since Sunday.

We stayed in the room for quite some time and tried discussing our plans for “THE EVENT” this Friday. Shit lang, I’m excited.

Eu and I tried doing our video for the thesis exhibit this Friday. Luckily, after millions of crash and other failures, we were able to finish it until our objectives. LOL! Dami paaaa! Well, I think we can do this before friday.

We were able to finish it around 8:45PM and we decided to have our dinner at McDo. Rik treated me for dinner. Thanks, bro! Yeah! We had some few chats and here comes Joseph again.

Alex: Starting this day, Hindi na talaga ako maniniwala sa iyo. Nakalimutan kong ikaw nga pala si Joseph.

Joseph: *Insanely laughing*

Then we had a discussion about the thesis forum and thesis exhibit.

Alex: Kelan malalaman yung nominated for Gold?

Rik: Sa Friday bago ata magforum.

Tignan niyo, kayo, sila Danica, sila Barlis.

Alex: Oo nga noh.

Rik: hindi namin ka-room sila Barlis.

Jon with a smirk.

Alex: AY TAE KA JOSEPH STRIKE 2 KA NA!

We laughed again.

Then it went to a discussion that lead to thesis defense and panelists.

Eu: Ahh.

Alex: Bakit ano ba mangyayari kung di niya matapos?

Joseph: Mabablacklist siya.

Jon starting to laugh again.

Alex: Ay tae ka talaga Joseph!

We ended this night laughing all the way. Crazy night!

I really had fun today. Even though we had so many things to do, we were able to have this kind of night.

Thanks guys!

Kumiriring ang telepono nang madaling araw..

Katiwala : Hello, Boss Pedro?
bahay-bakasyunan niyo.

Bossing : Oh Juan, ikaw pala. Ano’t napatawag ka? May problema ba?

Yung nanalo sa bird show?

Bossing : Ha? Ano? Kaninong burol?

Katiwala : Sa asawa niyo po, Boss. Bigla kasi siya dumating dito nung isang gabi, walang kaabi-abiso. Lampas hatinggabi na. Akala ko po magnanakaw. Ayun. Binaril ko.

Bossing : ANOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?????

Friday.

We had our thesis exhibit and thesis forum at school. The lousiest exhibit and forum you could ever imagine. No people. What a waste of time and effort. I slept around 2AM the other night just to be able to finish rendering the video for our thesis. No one even saw it. :( Ugh. The stress.

I went to school around 7:15AM because we were also having our immersion program at St. La Salle Pre-school for our PERSEF3 Project. Bryan G., and Edgar were already at ENGWALK studying for a quiz in Thank-God-I-dont-have-that-subject ENPROMA. By 8AM, we all went there to start our ‘Science Teacher for a Day’ with the kids.

I really had fun doing this project because the kids were so hyperactive and fun to be with. They really had some nice insights and made me laugh all throughout our stay there. My favorite kids were Shamoy, Yenyen and Jasper. They really have that leadership potential and I can see myself in them. I even taught some of the kids some pranks. :> HAHAHA! They called Bianca, Ninang-Lola. Rachel as their Lola, and Rhena as their Manang. I really wish for a bright future for them. During the science day, we taught three lessons, the first one was the volcano. The kids played with the ingredients to the point that they all smelled like chicharon. Vinegar was the main ingredient of the volcano. So imagine how we smelled as well. The next was the dancing spaghetti. I love how the kids commented to this one. They again played with it by turning the setup into a cooking class. They made noodles out of the spaghetti we provided. After that, we gave them a break and provided them with some bananas and juice. Thank you, Dandy and Clarence for bringing the food. After our break, we went out and performed the last experiment which is the Egg in a bottle test. Dan was the only one who was able to perform the experiment. All of the kids including the teachers were amazed with that one. A lot of them became hyperactive when they saw that the egg went straight into the bottle. Actually, I was amazed was well. After that, we gave our final message and left.

The kids.

They made me smile so much. Yenyen even said to Dan,”Ikaw na lang ang teacher namin”. Coming from a four year old can really make your heart melt. Dan, JC and I were the last ones to leave the school since the others had a quiz in ENPROMA.

After that, JC and I went to the exhibit and stayed there until it was over. Then Eu and I went to ENGWALK and had our lunch to the slowest ever eating place at EGI, Ati-atihan. It was my first time there and I really had a bad experience for making me wait for 45 minutes! Ugh. The food wasn’t even that good. I won’t eat there again! Ugh.

Rik and I stayed at ENGWALK and did some errands for her sister. I also gave a ticket to Tine for the UAAP game on Sunday. No plans watching it live since I’ll be doing alot of things.

Around 3:10PM, Team Engwalk evacuated Engwalk and started the Birthday Bash.
